Becoming proficient at Dreamweaver will allow you to deliver your creative ideas onto all mobile media. Skills in Flash will bring those pages to life, with interactivity and animated movement. Collectively they are considered the best tools for a design student to master.

To gain employment as a web designer, you must build a sample portfolio of your designs as you work through your training course. In line with most artistic work, Web Design is often judged differently by different people. Therefore an employer or client will need to see your work before taking you on. If you're planning to work for yourself, you may not need to take any professional certifications. However, if you do wish to become professionally qualified, your training should lead you to taking the Adobe Certified Expert certification, or the Adobe Certified Professional in either Dreamweaver, Flash or both.

Don't sell yourself short though by limiting your skills to just the stuff we can see on the screen. In addition to the design tools above, why not consider which other skills will enhance your career opportunities? You should have an understanding of HTML and CSS, which will help you to get in and debug or streamline a website if necessary. Next, you should know about extended and dynamic HTML and PHP programming. We think it's also important for a viable web designer to have a good grasp of how e-commerce websites work.
Then finally - or as final as this teaching ever gets - you have SEO, the oft misunderstood skill of Search Engine Optimisation. It's perhaps the most essential tool in your arsenal; training will give you some grounding on how to optimise the websites you build to feature well on the Search Engines. There are billions of websites now indexed on Google - yours will need to be optimised if shoppers are going to find them.
